iPods in Study Hall
Tiffany Zeatlow
Students can benefit from listening to their iPod
while doing homework. So, why do schools prohibit listening to music in study
halls? While in study hall, I find myself humming or singing quietly. But, I’m
told to stop because it’s supposed to stay quiet.
Music helps people get work done and stay focused.
Studies show that 45% of kids stay focused and are motivated to get their
homework done when they are listening to music. Depending on the kind of music
you listen to, you can change your brain waves to make you achieve a higher
state of awareness and concentration.
Listening to music can also benefit you by reducing
the amount of stress you have. Studies found that stress and anxiety levels
dropped significantly after listening to music wile doing homework.
Also, listening to music with strong beats results
with brainwaves moving in sync with the beats causing more concentration and
alert thinking.
In a loud and distracting study hall, listening to
your iPod can help block out noise and distractions. Although, there are people
who can focus and concentrate on their schoolwork without listening to music at
all. In fact, some people work better in complete silence.
The overall benefits of listening to music in study
hall help you concentrate and focus on your schoolwork. A change in brain waves
helps you achieve a higher state of concentration. Listening to music motivates
most students to stay on task.
